National News: Following the Ahmedabad plane crash, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner has been in the news. On Saturday, an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft suddenly engaged its emergency power system during takeoff. India's Air Safety Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has requested further information from Boeing regarding the incident. According to Air India, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner was flying from Amritsar to Birmingham, UK, on Saturday. As the plane approached the final stage of takeoff, crew members noticed the air turbine emergency power system activating. This system supplies power to the aircraft in an emergency.
However, the plane landed safely, and all electrical and hydraulic parameters were found to be normal upon inspection. Government sources stated that the DGCA has requested a detailed report from American aircraft manufacturer Boeing regarding the incident. The DGCA wants to determine whether the incident was a technical fault or a software error.
According to reports, the plane was briefly grounded following the incident and was cleared for further investigation. According to the Federation of Indian Pilots, the incident occurred at an altitude of approximately 500 feet (152 meters) above the ground. A pilots' union has urged the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to conduct a thorough inspection and investigation of the electrical systems of several Dreamliner aircraft operating in the country. The demand was made in an email sent by a pilots' trade union to officials of the aviation ministry.
The incident comes days after an Air India Boeing 787 crashed in Ahmedabad in June, killing 260 people. Preliminary reports from Indian investigators suggested the plane's fuel engine switches moved from "run" to "cutoff" almost simultaneously shortly after takeoff. Spokespeople for Boeing and the ministry did not immediately comment on the matter.
